Things Seen in Blogland...
I confess, I subscribe to waaaaay too many blogs, but thought I would share some of my favorite findings from the past week. Speaking of blogs, did you know Bloglines is shutting down Oct.1st? Any recommendations for other blog readers/rss feed sites???

Seen on OnceWed (Is it weird I have been married almost 4 years, but I still love looking at wedding blogs? They are just so pretty...)

Seen on SometimesSweet. After doing more research it appears that this is officially called the Holstee Manifesto, and they even have a link of a printable pdf (which will be on my inspiration board shortly)
Wishing everyone a great week ahead... ♥ ♥ ♥

Before & After Nightstand Lamps

After finishing my dream bed I decided to complete the look with some pretty nightstand lamps. I found a super cheap pair at TJ Maxx and figured I could spruce them up with something from my craft stash at home. Then I remembered some fringe I had been hoarding... it came from a pair of curtains left in the house my brother purchased a couple of years ago. The house was built in the 60's and still had a lot of the original decor- avocado green shag carpet, avocado green walls, avocado green curtains, etc. The decor immediately went away when my brother bought the house, but my Mom chirped up before the curtains got tossed and said "Gen, look at that fringe! You might want to keep that for a project or something..." Good call, Mom!

Dream Bed Complete!
Over the weekend Hubs and I constructed this headboard...

You may remember this original post showing the inspiration images I had collected over the past few months that prompted this project (see post for original image links/credit)...

So Hubs and I went to Lowe's and picked out 6' pine planks in various widths. I arranged them on the back porch and he screwed in cross beams for support...

Then using a piece of posterboard I cut the shape, traced it on the top of one side, then flipped over the template for a mirror image on the other side. Hubs cut out the shape with a jigsaw...

Then came the staining... I selected a few different colors of stain and brushed on mixtures of each on the individual planks. After I was finished I sanded down the edges and added a hint of distressing here and there...

Voila! So happy to finally have a headboard! It was a relatively simple project and cost just a little over $100 for all of the materials (compared to $1,000-$2,000+ for a store bought king size headboard). I ♥ it...

Crazy Quilting

The other week I took a Quilting class at my local shop, Dragonfly. I was a little intimidated since I had only made one quilt before, a rag quilt, but I thought it would be fun to branch out and try something a little out of my comfort zone. Not to mention with the scrappy style of quilting we would be working on it would hide mistakes a lot better than a traditional style of quilt! I decided to use a mixture of fabrics from both Flower Bucket and Gypsy Garden to get a good mixture of pattern scale and colors. My teachers Mary Colley and Fay Rawls were so great and showed us how to cut, flip, and sew our squares together to make the scrappy blocks. I started out a little ambitious thinking I was going to start a King size, but a few hours later I determined this would make a great throw blanket or the top of a dog bed ;). Like I've said before, I totally respect quilters for their patience and the preciseness of their work, it amazes me what goes into making a quilt...
Once I figure out how I'm going to finish off my blocks I will share pictures of the finished piece so stay tuned!
XO,
Genevieve
